Antisocial behaviour encompasses various actions that disrupt the lives of individuals, communities, and the environment. It leaves victims feeling helpless and anxious and reduces their quality of life.

Based on number of people affected, there are mainly three categories of antisocial behaviour:

  1. Personal Antisocial Behavior: It involves an individual targeting a specific person or group.
  2. Nuisance Antisocial Behavior: In this category, a person causes trouble, annoyance, or suffering to society.
  3. Environmental Antisocial Behavior: Actions that impact the environment, including public spaces and buildings, fall under this category.

13 Different types of Antisocial behaviour:

  1. Vehicle Abandonment: Vehicles left by owners, including scrap or the ones damaged during road accidents.
  2. Vehicle Nuisance: Inappropriate vehicle use like street cruising, misuse of motorised skateboards, go-peds, electric-propelled cycles and unlicensed dealing of vehicles.
  3. Rowdy or Inconsiderate Behavior: General nuisance in public places like private clubs, malls, etc.
  4. Rowdy Neighbours: Nuisance caused by neighbours, including noise disputes.
  5. Littering or Drug Paraphernalia: Fly posting, littering, and discarding drug paraphernalia.
  6. Animal Problems: Nuisance caused by animals, including uncontrolled animals, stray dogs, barking, fouling and intimidation by an animal.
  7. Trespassing: Unauthorised entry onto land, water, or premises.
  8. Nuisance Calls: Annoying phone calls that cause anxiety and annoyance, including silent and cold calls.
  9. Street Drinking: Unlicensed drinking in public places, including unauthorised parties on the street.
  10. Prostitution-related Activity: Lingering, promoting prostitution, or activities around brothels.
  11. Nuisance Noise: Noise issues not involving neighbours.
  12. Begging: Begging without a license in public places.
  13. Misuse of Fireworks: Inappropriate use, sale, or possession of fireworks.

Reporting Antisocial Behavior

Everyone has the right to live free from antisocial behaviour. Sometimes, the Police can help, but it might be a local council matter. To report such incidents:

Contact the Police (101 or 999 in emergencies) for:

  • Drug/substance misuse
  • Criminal damage
  • Gang-related issues
  • Assault
  • Prostitution/kerb crawling
  • Stolen property
  • Hate crime incidents

Contact Your Local Council for:

  • Aggressive begging
  • Vehicle nuisance
  • Noise nuisance
  • Neighbour nuisance
  • Fly tipping and littering
  • Illegal/underage sales (report to relevant authorities)
  • Misuse of fireworks (immediate danger: contact Fire Service on 999)
