Torfaen in the Gwent Police area is one of our National Neighbourhood Management Exemplar Sites. The force has produced excellent video footage to highlight the work that the Neighbourhood Management partnership has carried out. Please click here to view the footage.

The video has reinforced for me two critical elements of how to effectively deliver integrated services. Firstly, that front line staff from all agencies need to respect and genuinely care about the communities that they work within. Secondly, that they need to work over a period of time with community members and each other to forge trust and build strong working relationships. I think that you will agree after viewing the footage that both elements are clearly present in abundance at Torfaen.

Gwent Police have also been working to ensure that Specialist Departments have effective links with Neighbourhood Policing staff and that community engagement is the responsibility of all front line staff. This approach is reflected in the work that the Gwent Major Incident Team have done to develop a Community Engagement Strategy. The strategy ensures that they fully engage with neighbourhood teams and maximise the potential to work with and understand communities. Click here to view the strategy.
