PREVENT I have now completed my PREVENT effective practice visits. My thanks to Avon and Somerset, Thames Valley Police, Devon and Cornwall and Dorset for the warm welcome and the support given. Each of them has impressive effective practice examples and they have made significant inroads into implementing the PREVENT element of the Government’s Counter Terrorism strategy. The field officers will meet mid October to compare and pool findings, and I will be in touch with all forces in the region thereafter to discuss how best to disseminate the learning.
CITIZEN FOCUS HALLMARKS I attended the Hallmarks symposium held at Bramshill on 9th September. It was clear at the symposium and it has been clear during my regional visits that there is a will to embrace the Hallmarks concept and drive forward the Citizen Focus agenda.
The next landmark date is 10th October when the proposed Hallmarks will be presented at an ACPO conference. I look forward to working with forces in the region to assist them to put in place systems, policies and activities that will underpin the Hallmarks.
HMIC INSPECTION GRADINGS Forces in the region have been busy amending their action plans to address the Areas for Improvement identified by HMIC. Our next regional meeting on 23rd October will afford an opportunity for forces to enquire whether others were considered to have relevant effective practice that can inform their action planning. Congratulations go to the Dorset Constabulary for their HMIC Citizen Focus grading. Dorset was one of only three forces to exceed the inspection criteria.
