For the first time, not being involved in shifts over Christmas and New Year was personally a slightly unsettling experience. I hope your year has got off to a flyer despite the snow which caused the cancellation of many meetings and events. Having cancelled our regional meeting, I think I was the only one praying for snow to vindicate my decision, that said I was disappointed as we were due to hear more details of Kent’s blackberry engagement tool. Fortunately, colleagues from Kent have very kindly agreed to host the postponed event next month.
I used the enforced ‘down time’ to hone my admittedly weak IT skills and in collaboration with Garry Thomas have set up a Southern Region Community of Practice on the IDeA website, to make it easier and faster to communicate ideas, thoughts, opportunities and events, amongst those involved in the Citizen Focus and Neighbourhood Policing world across the organisations. To join, visit the Communities of Practice website.
Another advantage of this new tool is that it will increase the breadth and volume of information shared at every level, as members can choose which notifications they are interested in and at what frequency they wish to receive them. To give you an idea, once you have joined, visit the blog pages of the website.
Something else I tried during the snow is blogging. If you are hesitant at dipping your toes in the water, please contact me for an easy to follow guide, which talks through joining, accessing and contributing.
